Owner, Executive Director, and classically trained Pastry Chef, Mamata Reddy, a graduate of The French Pastry School in downtown Chicago, created Spoonfoolery after several years as an after-school culinary instructor at the Gary Comer Youth Center on Chicago's South Side. She employed a farm-to-table curriculum, teaching kids seasonal cooking, healthy eating, and from-scratch baking. She is now bringing this way of kitchen life to her current residence, Evanston, Ill. Spoonfoolery offers learning opportunities to kids ages 3 to 14 and special event space to all ages.
Mamata lives in South Evanston with her husband, son and daughter, and a brood of furry creatures who have inspired a whole line of homemade pet snacks too!
Assistant Instructor, Sarah Johnson, began working at Spoonfoolery as a kitchen assistant Summer 2018. Having worked in childcare for five years, Sarah has extensive experience with kids ages 0-14. She has worked as the assistant camp director at Little Beans Cafe in Evanston and has babysat for numerous families across Evanston and tutors students of all ages.
One of Sarah’s most rewarding professional experiences has been working with Mamata at Spoonfoolery. Ever since her father taught her how to cook, fostering the culinary growth of others is something Sarah is very passionate about!
Sarah grew up in South Evanston and is studying Neuroscience and English Literature at Northwestern. In her free time, she captains the Womxn’s Ultimate Frisbee team and enjoys cooking family-style meals for her roommates
