Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky Visits Spoonfoolery

Who knew that a quick stint inside a local Starbucks would get me 15 minutes in line talking with our U.S. Congressional Representative?

Well, that's what happened this past April, right after dropping my kids off at school one morning. There I was, standing in line to order my standard Starbucks (Skinny Vanilla Latte), and Jan Schakowsky (D, IL-9) zipped right in behind me. We talked politics, of course, and what I do here in Evanston. When Jan learned about Spoonfoolery, she immediately wanted to come and check it out. She gave me her assistant's contact information and said to set it up. Fast forward to Tuesday, and there she was, live and in person at Spoonfoolery!

Jan enjoyed working with Tuesday's Elementary Chefs class, making apple pie rollups, the perfect fall sweet treat. I was so proud of my students and their opportunity to meet their Congressional Representative so early in life. And I am so very grateful to her and her staff for making it happen. Jan is supportive of local businesses, and it shows in her efforts to get down in the trenches with us. If you'd like to read more about our afternoon with Jan, please visit The Daily Northwestern, which wrote up the perfect take on this much-appreciated meetup in our kitchen.
